Notice is given of the Society Annual General Meeting which will be held at 12 noon on Saturday 18th May 2024.
Those of you who have joined us in the past will be familiar with the format for the day which is as follows:
We will meet in The Chepman Aisle in St Giles Cathedral, High Street, Edinburgh at 11.00 where we will have a short dedication to the Great Marquis.
The AGM will be held in the Royal Scots Club, 29 – 31 Abercromby Place, Edinburgh at 12 noon. It will be followed by a sandwich lunch for which there will be a charge of £10.00 per person.
We are privileged to have two after lunch speakers this year:
Dr Robin McCaig, a member of the Heritage & Culture team at St Giles will give us a talk entitled: “From Souls to Coals: A Brief History of the Chepman Aisle and other parts of St Giles”.
Mr Nic Boyes, Accredited Conservator, is the person who has repaired Montrose’s finger on two occasions, the first in 2003 and again in 2023. He will illustrate conservation philosophy and the benefits of maintaining traditional skills. In addition, he will speak of the original use of exotic materials in the construction of the Montrose Monument and the virtuosic use of materials to create sculptural illusion. He will then present the repair process in detail.
